Edina, Mo. — This is the fifth consecutive year that North Missouri Field Trial Association has held a January trial at White Oak Ranch near Edina, Mo. The ranch has a great mix of edges blended together by crop, pasture, and hay ground, providing an excellent course to evaluate dogs on.

Weather conditions for the trial were favorable for the dogs; temperatures were cool but pleasant for this time of year. Handlers didn’t have it easy as earlier in the week wet weather was in the area, leaving the grounds wet and muddy especially in the crop fields.

North Missouri Field Trial Association is very thankful for the support shown on this weekend from our participants who were from Missouri, Iowa, Illinois and Oklahoma  NBHA sponsors Purina Pro Plan, which supports the NBHA in a big way, provided dog food coupons to all the winners. Gun Dog Supply provided a gift certificate each day to be given out to someone in attendance or participating at the trial. Other organizational sponsors of the NBHA are Garmin and Christie Enterprises; they too are a big help to the NBHA. Thanks goes out Corey Huchteman, White Oak Ranch farm manager of who helped with prior preparation of getting the course ready. Mowing trails and opening the gates to the various fields helped make the trial run very smoothly.

Our trial was co-chaired by Tim Penn and Kevin Western, They oversaw the operation of the trial from the start to the end. With a good entry, we would like to thank those who judged  — Tony King, Justin Crook, Jeremy Gulick, Alissa Ruggles, Jim Ogle and Tim Penn.

Special thanks for our longtime club member Don Hilliard of Lancaster, Mo., who is club secretary/treasurer. Don showed up for both days, brought his Kubota ATV that provided the assistance we needed to run the dog wagon and which made for a very big time-saver.

Saturday started with the Open stakes. The Open Puppy had eleven entries. Named first was Glover’s Rhoda, setter female owned and handled by Jack Glover. Second was Jojo’s Dark Knight, setter male owned and handled by Jim Ogle. Third was Skyhawk’s Diamond Duke, setter male owned and handled by Dan Bridgewater.

Ten dogs competed in the very competitive Open Shooting Dog. Winning first was Doc’s Touch of Gold, pointer female owned by Dr. John Ruetschi and handled by Jeremy Gulick. Gold had a good forward race and clean bird work to put her into the top spot. Awarded second was Pawnbroker’s Royal Flush, pointer male owned by Ronald Litle and handled by Jeremy Gulick. Third was Hawkeye Red, Irish setter male owned by Jim Giles and handled by Jeremy Gulick.

First in the Open Derby was Parsley’s White Lightning, pointer male owned by Michael Parsley and handled by Dan Martin. Second was Hank, pointer male handled by Jeremy Gulick.  Bozeann’s Online, setter female owned by Loyd and Ruth Bozeman and handled by Rob Downen, placed third.
