Oklahoma trainer Allen Vincent left Collinsville, Okla., on July 11 and arrived in Columbus, N. D., the following day to find his camp in good shape thanks to Marvin and Darla Westernes who groomed the property and the Jacobson Family who had the kennels in good order and horse pen fences repaired.

“Gage Parker of Collinsville accompanied me up,” reported Allen, “but he had to return home after a week or so, and Race Jacobson, who has been a big help in the past, stepped back in.

“Larry and Piper Huffman arrived from Mississippi on July 13.

“It was cool when we arrived but it is warm to hot now (August 6). Our summer is going well. Seeing young chickens and the young dogs for both Larry and myself are rounding into form.

“Steve Rutkowski, formerly of Arizona and now Oklahoma, is here with his dogs. We are expecting additional guests, among them Matt Cochran of Reydon, Okla., and Dr. Bob Rankin of Edmond. Dr. Jim and Marion Mills and Steve and Kathy Lightle of Searcy, Ark., are due, as are Thomas and Laurie McGuane of McCloud, Mont. Thomas is a well known writer (novels/screenplays); Laurie is Jimmy Buffett’s sister.

“Piper and Larry are expecitng Jeff Busby from Texas near the end of August.

“This is the first season in many that Preston Trimble has not made the trip from Norman, Okla. Preston sent his regrets accompanied by a check to cover the cost of libations at the fish fry during the Dakota Classics which start September 5.”
