Lake Ariel, Pa. — October 16-17 brought field trial competitors from several states to the beautiful Murphy Farm in Lake Ariel, Pa., for the fall renewal of the Mountain View Bird Dog Club’s trial.

First to take the line were the Amateur Derbies. Thank you to Dean Avillion and Rob Boos for judging this stake.

Tim Cavanaugh took the blue with Elias Richardson’s nice pointer male, Range Rover.

Next up was the Amateur Shooting Dog. Jamie Nee drove all the way down from the Cape Cod area of Massachusetts to look over this competitive field of shooting dogs. He shared judging duties with Mike Oxenrider of Millersburg, Pa. Both men were attentive and positive in their judging duties and we are thankful for their willingness to offer their time to for this trial.

Taking first was Super Storm, setter male handled by this reporter. He ran a fancy forward race with five evenly spaced finds. Taking the red ribbon was Little Miss Margaret, owned and handled by accomplished amateur Tim Cavanaugh. This young pointer female is one to watch in the future with her fancy running style and breathtaking style on point. Margaret and the third place dog ran together. Both are still Derbies but have the manners to run as shooting dogs. Rounding out the placements was Super Storm Cliff, which ran the front, took edges and hunted the cover where the course called for it. He was rewarded with three expertly handled finds.

October 17 dawned overcast and cooler than the day before. Mike Oxenrider was back to judge the Open Derby and Jason Williams filled in for a judging scratch.

Taking the blue was Super Storm Cliff with a big, forward race and five perfect finds. Kris Norby from Connecticut took second with Lil Thumper which had four bird contacts and ran a fancy race. The yellow ribbon went to Super Storm Hank which ran to the limits of the course and had two nice finds with Derby manners.

Last but not least was the Amateur Gun Dog Stake. Scout, handled by Kris Norby took the first placement with a perfect hunting effort and five nice finds. Marty Festa's Blue Ribbon Bella stroked the course with three perfectly mannered finds and that earned her second place. Rambling Rivers Autumn Skye took third with a solid effort that kept her perfectly in the pocket with little handling. She had four finds including a wild pheasant.

Thank you to Arthur Bruno and Mike Oxenrider for looking over this fine lineup of gun dogs.

Mountain View Club would like to thank Grace Murphy for letting us use her farm for this trial. The farm was in perfect shape to hold the event and the views and fall colors were stunning. Grace is committed to carrying on the legacy of her late father, David Murphy, who poured his heart and soul into make the farm what it is today.

Charlie Killoran and Larry Miles shared road guard and bird planting duties and a big thank you is also owed to them. Purina continues to offer generous support to the U. S. Complete circuit and we thank Greg Blair for his support through Purina.
