Lacey Twp, N. J. — The Region 2 Amateur Shooting Dog Championship started on Friday, October 30, drawing 35 entries.

The Greenwood Forest venue was loaded with birds from the previous two trials, the National Amateur Pheasant Shooting Dog Championship and the Garden State Open Shooting Dog Championship. This gave every entry an ample shot at having plenty of bird work.

The English Setter Club would like to thank Bob Brooks for manning the dog wagon. He was right on bringing the dogs to the starting line.  No one could do any better and his work was very much appreciated by all. Next are Bobby Verderosa and Brian Sanchez for helping plant birds. My wife Danielle Lordi provided lunches and coordinated the Saturday evening dinner.

Joe Cincotta provided an incredible amount of work getting everything in line for the trial. He is quite the organizer and his help was instrumental in putting on a class trial.  Lloyd Miller provided some much-needed help before and during the trial.

It goes without saying Purina is always a premium supporter of trials at all levels in our sport. Please consider feeding Purina products for all your animals. Thank you, Purina, for your support with the ad and dog food.

Jeff Haggis Saddlery worked with us to provide the winner with a custom saddle and the runner-up with a handcrafted roading hardness. The judges also received a beautiful saddle bag inscribed with their initials. A huge thanks to Jeff Haggis for delivering these beautiful works of art on short notice.

A special thank you to our judges, Joe Luisi from Vernon Hill, Va., and Mike Mullineaux from Atlantic, Va. They rode hard and gave everyone a fair shot to contend for the title. The English Setter Club would like to thank them for their time in the saddle.

Topping the field was Calico’s Guns N Roses. The three-year-old while and black pointer female is owned by Calico Kennels and Alex and Tiffany Smith and was handled masterfully by Alex Smith. Guns and Roses impressed the judges with a strong, forward race.  She had seven stylish finds, a back, and an unproductive. She was released from the dogleg running in the ninth brace with Bella Bully.  She finished strong going away on the main breakaway field. She had multiple covey and pheasant finds. Guns N Roses won her second championship in two months to take home the beautiful Haggis saddle.

Jubullee took runner-up honors. She was handled by Ernie Saniga and owned by Karen and Ernie Saniga. Ernie and Jubullee ran in the first brace after lunch on Sunday and were off to a blistering pace. The white and liver four-year-old pointer female handled to the front with five finds and an unproductive. She was locked in on all her finds with two of them on large coveys of quail and one on ringneck rooster. She finished to the front with as we were reaching the main breakaway field. Her performance earned a new handcrafted roading harness from Haggis Saddlery.

Pushing the winners were Springflow's Backcountry P, handled by Chris Catanzarite with six finds, a back and a stop to flush with powerful race. B K Red Solo Cup, handled by Dave O’Brien carded six finds, had an unproductive, and a stop to flush. Little Wing Inked Up, owned and handled by Bo Mamounis hunted to the front with five finds.  Navajo Cody scored six stylish finds with an unproductive.
