Arkansas Open Shooting Dog Championship

Pure Gossip [With Chuck Stretz]Winner of the Arkansas Open Shooting Dog Championship

Conway, Ark. — The Arkansas stakes followed the Ozark and great performances just kept coming. Two men known for their integrity called the shots, Harold Woodard of Vilonia, Ark., and Marty Moore of Hornersville, Mo. They are kind of no nonsense type of guys riding, watching and evaluating. They let you do your thing and they call it like they see it. At the breakaway they let all the handlers know what they expected and it was up to you to deliver.

First on the slate was the Arkansas Derby Classic. This more than thirty- year-old classic has seen some of the best youngsters to ever hit the ground. This year’s winners were of that caliber. Declared the winner was Silver W Joe Z, pointer female owned by Debbie Ozner of Ochlocknee, Ga., and handled by Shawn Kinkelaar. Z ran a scorching race with crisp bird work. Runner-up was claimed for pro Virgil Moore and Two Fingers Neat, pointer male owned by Chuck Forsyth of Fort Worth, Tex. His future should be good with this one. Good hunting race and a well located covey gave him the nod.

In the historic Arkansas Open Shooting Dog Championship, the performances reached a new high. They always say the cream comes to the top. Well  this year that was true. Pure Gossip, flashy white and black pointer female, came to the top in a resounding way! She is proudly owned by longtime field trial veteran Bob Reynolds of Kansas City, Mo. Missourian Chuck Stretz was in the saddle handling and I believe he enjoyed every minute. Her performance left no doubt on what it would take to move her. Many tried but none were successful. She scored three times, all impressive in location, with a quality race to match. Her win will be remembered for the rest of Chuck’s time in the saddle for sure!

Runner-up was white and black pointer female Hollow Creek Lilly. She put down a hard charging race and had flawless bird work with two finds. Lilly is owned by Alaine and Jerry Baber of Winchester, Ky., and handled by Stacy Perkins. Her upbringing has been a good one under Perkins. This youngster will be in the winners’ circle again!

Jacked Up Jasper was also in the conversation for consideration.

Again a big thanks to Josh Fortner and the Arkansas Game and Fish for all their efforts. To Johnny Taylor and Roger Martin for all their time driving the dog wagon in all the stakes. To Purina and SportDog for their sponsorship and support. Without them things would not be the same. To all the handlers who come to show off their hard work, and their owners who support this great sport, a big thank you!

Again to all the field trialers who have never come to Camp Robinson, you are always invited to come and show your charges here. Hope all have a successful summer and productive season.
