American Field

Bob Lamb Remembered

By David Grubb | May 10, 2018

Lake Orion, Mich. — I am a bit wary to open my American Field each week. Received the May 5 issue and see where my friend from years ago, Bob Lamb, had passed away.

I met Bob back in the mid-1960s at Carbondale, Ill., and we became friends. I remember Bob coming to the American Field Quail Futurity at Carbondale. I had purchased a new Topper singleshot chrome-plated .410 shotgun. I had run in eleven consecutive trials by November and either won or placed in each of them. Bob had forgotten his gun. He asked me about using the .410. I told him the recent “reputation” the gun had. He said, “No problem.” Bob ran his dog and came in and said, “Well, I just added to the total!” He had indeed, for this outstanding bitch, Sugarshack, had placed in the Futurity.

Bob was a rather flamboyant person but had a heart of gold and would help anyone, anywhere, anytime.

Bob had other good dogs, but Sugarshack was a really tough competitor in her day, and Bob was too.

Rest in peace, my friend.
