Field Trial Report

Central Maine Brittany Club

By Gary Anderson | Oct 05, 2018

Brownfield, Me. — The fall trial of the Central Maine Brittany Club was held the weekend of September 8-9 at the Brownfield grounds.

We would like to thank Purina for generously supporting our trial.

The Thursday before the trial brought a heavy downpour during the day, but the sandy soils of the grounds soaked up all the water and  it was dry for the trial.

Weather was great for running dogs as it cooled off into the 60s and lower 70s during the day and overcast skies. Saturday evening brought cooler temperatures with nighttime temperatures dipping into the upper 30s.

Chukar were used for the trial and flew well. There was lots of bird work throughout the trial.

Many thanks to John Short and Bob Paucek for mowing the grounds just prior to the trial. Sam Jackson and Roy Hargreaves did their usual excellent job of planting birds for the whole trial with assistance where needed from club members. We would like to thank all the judges for driving long distances to get to the trial and for their review of dogs over the two days.

We had 22 different handlers and 63 dogs that ran in five stakes over the two days. Dogs from across New England and from out of the region competed in the club’s fall trial.

Donna Pride commuted each day to handle the record keeping and the breakaway.

Several club members including Julie Harris, Denise Hue and Terri Plummer ably provided hot food to participants both days.

After the running on Saturday, a lasagna dinner was prepared and enjoyed by all. Many thanks to David Herrington for his creation and updating of award plaques.
