Rendition First in the Open Shooting Dog Stake

Grovespring, Mo. — The fall trial of the Colorado Field Dog Association was held November 3-4 on the Field Trial Sportsmen’s Club grounds in Grovespring, Mo.

We were blessed with beautiful weather for the event. Judges for the Open Shooting Dog Stakes were Fred Smith and Bonnie Hidalgo. Judges for the two Open Derby stakes were Mike Harryman and Terry Feitz.

There were six entries in the Sunday Open Shooting Dog. The winner was Rendition, Irish setter male owned and handled by Dr. Roger Boser of Seven Valleys, Pa. Rendition ran a beautiful forward race coupled with flawless bird work. Second was Grand Valley Jett, setter male owned and handled by Wayne Neirman of Sedalia, Mo. Jett scored two finds in a good race. Waycross, Irish setter male, was third for Dr. Roger Boser.

Firefly’s Invictus, pointer female, won the shooting dog standard Open Derby. She is owned by Dennis and Bonnie Hidalgo and was handled by Dennis. She made some big moves and had two finds. Coldstream, Irish setter male, was second for Dr. Roger Boser. Coldstream ran a consistently forward race and scored one finished covey find. There were four entries in this stake.

In  Monday’s Open Shooting Dog, eight starters were drawn. Quantonas Reciprocal, Irish setter female owned and handled by Kelli Aitken of Manhattan, Kan., won with a beautiful, forward race. Cedar Creek Sixgun was second with a nice race for owner-handler Ed Liermann of Palmyra, Wis. Gratitude was third with a strong and predominantly forward race for Roger Boser.

The Open Derby drew four starters. The winner, Firefly’s Rendition, Irish setter male owned by Dennis and Bonnie Hidalgo and handled by Dennis, ran an attractive, forward race. Firefly’s Lucky Penny, Irish setter female also owned by the Hidalgos but handled by Bonnie, was second with a mostly forward race.
