Autaugaville, Ala. — The Dry Pond Field Trial Club welcomed owners, handlers, club members and gallery to participate in the 2018 field trial November 2-4.

The Jimmy Northcutt Memorial Shooting Dog Classic was held on Dry Pond Plantation in Autaugaville, Ala.

The trial consisted of an Open Derby, Amateur Shooting Dog and concluded with a youth trial.

The Open Derby with fifteen entries started on a cool and cloudy morning at 8:00 a. m. This stake was judged by Jim Hughes of Bessemer, Ala., and Jim Crayne of Centre, Ala. Live Oak Magnificent placed first in the Open Derby. Magnificent is a white and liver pointer male owned and handled by Lynn Jones of Hatchechubbee, Ala. Second place was awarded to White’s Crossbow, owned and handled by Danny White of Heflin, Ala. Crossbow is a white and orange pointer male. Town Creek Hardaway Jill, which placed third, is owned by Bill Clem of Hardaway, Ala., and handled by Mike Martino.

The Amateur Shooting Dog drew  26 entries — 24 pointers and 2 setters. This stake began after lunch on Friday. Judges were Michael Martino and Anthony Martino who awarded first place to American Express Lane (never leave home without him). Lane is a white  pointer male with orange ticking, owned and handled by Brian Peterson of Cecil, Ala. Second was Sugarknoll Buzz Saw, white pointer male with liver ticking. Buzz Saw is owned by Peter and Chris Del Collo of Pamplin, Va. Buzz Saw was handled by Pete. McRee’s Glory B came in third. She is a white pointer female with liver ticking, owned and handled by Pat McPherson of Evergreen, Ala.

The Youth Stake began after lunch on Sunday afternoon. A big thanks to Darron Hendley for continuing to encourage and organize this event. There were four youth participants, all doing an excellent job making the decision for judges, Bo and Morgan Brewer, quite difficult. First place was Bud, handled by Lucas Martino. Second was Ben, handled by Taylor Roberts. Third was Sue, handled by Ellen G. Montgomery. Fourth was Two, handled by Addi McDuffie.

We’d like to thank all those who supported the Jimmy Northcutt Memorial Shooting Dog Classic. A big “shout out” to Greg Blair with Purina who donated gifts for the winners. We greatly appreciate all the professional and amateur handlers who came out to support this event. Your entries and participation are very much appreciated which allows the DPFTC to continue to host this trial.

A huge “thank you” to the judges who rode enthusiastically, carefully observing each dog. We also thank all the volunteers, club members, photographer and scouts.
