Flashback . . .

Sep 05, 2017

The 2017 running of the National Shooting Dog Futurity is scheduled for September 20 at Bloomingdale, Ohio. The inaugural running was held at the Three Rivers Game Management Area near Baldwinsville, N. Y., in 1964, and where it was held for 53 years. Here is the winner of the Seventh National Shooting Dog Futurity in 1970, Elhew Bobolink (by Red Water Rex—Elhew Knickette, she by Elhew Knickerbocker—Elhew Tweed). Bobolink was bred, owned and handled by the late Robert G. Wehle. The white and liver pointer male made a name for himself not by his win record, but as a producer, the sire of 41 winners that accumulated 274 wins. He sired Elhew Link’s Jewel, winner of the 1976 National Open Shooting Dog Championship handled by David Grubb.

The photographer caught the young pointer “watching flushing birds,” as is noted on the back of the photo.
