Abilene, Kan. — The Holler Point Field Trial Club hosted the Flint Hills Amateur All-Age Classic and companion Derby. Stakes started on October 25 on the wide open Flint Hill prairies located 20 miles south of Abilene, Kan.

The weather was almost perfect with early mornings starting out near freezing and warming up into the mid-50s throughout the day with very little wind.

We had to change up the trial without the typical field trial hands of Dr. Stan Wint and Diane Shoemaker.

With Dr. Wint busy hosting the Region 17 Amateur Shooting Dog Championship and Diane being out on a business trip, the meal situation was starting to look pretty bleak. However, Tim Thornton and his wonderful family stepped in and filled in the gaps. Tim’s mom and dad, Phyllis and Dan Thornton, and Tim’s lovely wife, Melissa, came out and saved the day. For breakfast they put on a wonderful spread of biscuits and gravy and breakfast burritos with excellent home-made lunches.

Dinner consisted of fresh hamburgers and bratwursts on the grill with an all you can eat fish fry on Saturday night.

Thanks to Melissa and Meadow Thornton doing an excellent job of running the dog wagon. A big thanks to the Thornton family for making it a successful and smooth weekend.

A big thank you to our judges — Chase and Mark Verdoorn, Justin Cook and Kirk Swanson— for all their hard work and watchful eyes, Chase and Mark Verdoorn, Justin Cook and Kirk Swanson. Kirk comes out with his own refreshments, fresh cinnamon rolls and the legendary cinnamon crumb cake that his wonderful wife sends along with him for a special breaktime treat out on the beautiful prairies.

Holler Point Field Trial Club and its members want to thank all who attended. Wishing you all a healthy and safe New Year. See you in the spring out on the prairie.
