Illinois Brittany Club

Holman Classic Winners. Front row, from left: Chad Holman with Jac’s Ray of Sunshine; Ray Trimble with Brendi Brooks Cowboy Up, Donna Janulis with Black Creek Whizki, and Kathy Gulembo with Hi Points Jac's Original Spice. Back Row: Mike Hutchcraft, judge; Judy and Ed Graves; Mary Jo Trimble, Ed Janulis, Jim Lawless, judge, and Stan Williamson.

Willisville, Ill. — Finally, after several cancellations, we were able to conduct our first field trial of the year.

We want to thank all the judges, participants, and volunteers who complied with the COVID  rules and regulations in order for the trial to go on. Everyone had their temperature taken and no one was over the limit!

While some of our staunch amateurs (Joe Williams and Dave Capstick) were unable to attend, we still had suitable numbers to allow all the winners to earn AKC championship points. Our Jim Holman Classic was a national qualifying one-hour stake, so all four placements earned a berth in the National Championship if they did not have one already. For the first time, Jac’s Ray of Sunshsine will join the other three placements in Booneville, Ark., to compete for the national title.

Once again, we want to thank Nestle Purina for their support with their fine product for the winners and financial support to the club. It is critical to the success of the trial.

A special thanks to Tom Jagielski for filling in for Dave Capstick who was unable to come. Also, a special thanks to Mike Hutchcraft and Jim Lawless who spent day one in a steady rain. They were rewarded with sunshine and mild temperatures the next day which lasted through the week end.

Paul Kuipers, Tom Jagielski, Dennis Sneed, Kim Marlatt, Stan Williamson, and Ron and Kathy Gulembo all took turns in the saddle and gave their full attention to the 61 starters.

We were happy to have Ed Janulis in the dog wagon driver’s seat, Ed Graves planting birds, and Chad Holman with son Lee moving contestants from one course to the next. Lee also helped collect the birds lost by the Graves as they tried to corral the birds without the catch box which disappeared since the last time we used the bird house.

Ray Trimble picked up the dog food and Mary Jo and Ray were ever present as road guards.

New to our Brittany trial were Kirk and Larry Loftin. They brought a fine string of German shorthaired pointers to compete with our Brittanys. They also were impressed with the grounds on the Captain side, having only been on the Denmark side at Pyramid State Recreation Area. We hope they return.

We have Site Superintendent Cha Hill and his limited staff to thank for that. They have worked with the field trial members all summer to keep the grounds suitable for running.
