Jayhawk Open Shooting Dog Championship

Elk City, Kan. — The 2019 running of the Jayhawk Open Shooting Dog Championship was hosted by the Flint Hills Field Trial Club.

Upfront’s Southern Star, pointer female, owned by Lance Schulz of Bismarck, N. D., and handled by Shawn Kinkelaar, was named champion. Hale’s Kickstarter, pointer male, in the ownership of Dr. Jeffrey Hale of Russellville, Ark., was runner-up. Eddy Taylor handled Kickstarter. Thirty-six shooting dogs were drawn for this event.

Judges for the Championship and Derby were Bob Burchett from Grovespring, Mo., and Ken Chenoweth from Fair Grove, Mo.

Silver W Joe Z topped a field of twelve to take top honors in the Derby. The white and orange pointer male is owned by Debbie Ozner of Olchlocknee, Ga., and was handled by Shawn Kinkelaar. Double M’s Smokin Gun, pointer male in the ownership of Meredith Mays of Renfrew, Pa., and handled by Diane Vatter, placed second. Hale’s High Flyer, pointer female handled by Eddy Taylor and owned by Dr. Jeffrey Hale, placed third.
