Field Trial Report

Michigan Brittany Club

By Robert Watson | May 03, 2021

Ionia, Mich. — The Michigan Brittany Club hosted their annual spring field trial on the heels of the Michigan Brittany Championship Association’s trial and the Western Michigan Brittany Club’s trial.

The MBC trial started on Friday, April 9, with an Open Restricted All-Age stake. Judges Blake Rizzo and Bill Branham watched with keen attentiveness the sixteen dogs that came to the line. Taking the blue was Walker’s Prairie Bandit, handled by Al Cropek and owned by Samantha James and Dan Dodson. Owner and handler Josef Smith’s pointer Sunny in the Bank took second with a strong showing. Rounding out the placements were Patrick and Joan Koczenasz’s Kozy’s Rocky Mountain Gambler, handled by Al Cropek, with owner-handler Vince Anderson’s Magnum’s High Velocity Top Gun taking a fourth.

Saturday morning arrived bringing near perfect weather for the weekend stakesl.

On this day the stakes held were the Open Puppy judged by Blake Rizzo and Charlie Fenech. Judges Leroy Long and Carlos Gust judged the Open All-Age Stake, while the Amateur Walking Derby was judged by Harold Darga and Paul Renius. Rounding out Saturday’s stakes was the Amateur Shooting Dog judged by Richard Pritov and Harold Darga.

The rain held off until the day’s activities were competed and then a heavy downpour saturated the grounds during the night.

The rain moved out Sunday morning and the day started off with a couple of challenges, but the field trial committee made the adjustments and the stakes started on time.

Judging the Amateur Walking Puppy were Kim McVeigh and Paul Renius. Blake Rizzo and Charlie Fenech judged the Amateur All-Age stake. Putting a full day in the saddle judging the 25 Open Shooting Dog that came to the starting line were Judges Leroy Long and Richard Pristov.

The Michigan Brittany Club would like to thank our judges for their decisions and time over the weekend. The club would also like to thank everyone who pitched in and helped make our trial a successful one.

Special thanks go out to Carlos Gust, Dick and Kathryn Lipski, Ed and Donna Janulis, and Ray McVeigh. Field trial Committee members Ron Auten and John Hall should also be recognized for all off their hard work behind the scenes to make our trial operate smoothly.

Judy Marinelli deserves a huge thank you for taking care of the rosettes and placement prizes. The club would also like to thank Will Langley for providing horses for our trial. The field trial committee missed John Marinelli’s presence and help at the trial and wishes him a speedy recovery.

The Michigan Brittany Club thanks professionals Al Cropek and Chad Holman for their entries as well as everyone else who entered a dog or two in our trial. We hope you had a great weekend. The Michigan Brittany Club hopes to see all of your at our fall trial in September.
