Midwest Open Shooting Dog Championship

Elk City, Kan. — The Midwest Open Shooting Dog Championship and accompanying Derby were held at the Westfall Ranch near Elk City, Kan., March 10-13.

The Championship drew a field of 36 top shooting dogs. Hale’s Kickstarter, white and black ticked pointer male, ran a powerful race and had two flawless finds to win the Championship. Kickstarter is owned by Dr. Jeffrey Hale of Russellville, Ark., and was handled by Shawn Kinkelaar. Virgil Moore scouted the new champion.

Runner-up was Pure Gossip, white and black pointer female handled by Chuck Stretz and owned by Bob Reynolds of Kansas City, Mo.

The Midwest Derby was won by S S S Lightning, pointer female owned by R. A. Snipes, Jr. of Aspermont, Tex., and handled by Kinkelaar.

Hackberry’s Ice Callie, pointer female owned by Robert Konz and handled by Harold Gearhart, was second. Purpleline Sally, pointer female owned by John Stretz and handled by Chuck Stretz, was third. Each was placed on race.

Judges for both stakes were William Smith of Moscow, Tenn., and Chris Rider of Smithfield, Pa. Both of these gentlemen are well known and highly respected.
