Midwest Open Shooting Dog Championship

Elk City, Kan — The 2021 Midwest Open Shooting Dog Championship and Midwestern Open Derby Classic began March 9 and were completed March 12 at the Westfall Brothers Ranch, Elk City, Kan. Twelve Derbies and 34 shooting dogs competed in the 35th running of this event.

The Derby Classic was won by Thunder Bolt's Storm, white and lemon pointer female owned by Dr. Thomas Jackson of Columbus, Ind., and handled by Shawn Kinkelaar. Touch's Shameles, white and orange pointer male handled by Chuck Stretz placed second. Shameless is owned by Dr. Richard Steckley of Wichita, Kan. Big Bull, handled by Eddy Taylor placed third.

The Championship was won by Pure Gossip, white and black nine-year-old pointer female handled by Chuck Stretz for owner Bob Reynolds of Kansas City, Mo. True Choice, white and liver pointer female was named runner-up. Choice was handled by Shawn Kinkelaar for owner Greg Fried of Millerstown, Pa.

The Championship was judged by Eddie Berendzen and Tim Thornton; Jason Evans joined Berendzen to judge the Derby.
