Mora, Minn. — The Minnesota Grouse Dog Association had back to back weekends in the woods, the first hosting the Region 19 Amateur Walking Shooting Dog Championship April 8-9, and the second starting on April 14 at Mora, Minn.

John Edstrom and Paul Bukovich pulled together and selected a great group of judges for our second weekend.

Judges were Scott Anderson, Dan Voss, David Moore, Chris Bye, Ben McKean, Gregg Gress and Steve Snyder.

Lunches were provided by Mr. Benshoof!

THE WINNERS

Rod Lein and Bert Benshoof teamed up with their charges and swept the lead-off Open Shooting Dog. Birds were tough this day with the first place Diva Dot (Rod Lein) carding one find. Awarded second on race was Over the Hill Patty (Lein). A littermate to Patty, Go Peter B, put down a commendable ground effort to secure third.

The Amateur Shooting Dog was won by Lake Effect Tilly for Tori Kaufman, a fantastic bird-finder that put on her usual show carding three grouse finds! Hartland Maisy Mae scored on birds for Tim Kaufman to earn second place. Bert Benshoof’s Go Peter B was third.

The contested Derby was thrilling with lots of gunfire! Sig Degitz ran his Northern Lights Leo which had a mature race and birds to place first. Pro Jerry Kolter brought out the signature brand Northwoods Gucci which displayed mature manners. Sig Degitz was not done, handling Northern Lights Sirius to  third place.

We would like to thank Purina for their sponsorship of our ads and the Purina product for the winners. We truly appreciate our relationship with Dean Reinke and Greg Blair.

Trials are work. Gregg Gress and Chris Bye did much work behind the scenes as they did out in front also. Thank you, gentlemen.
