Ascension First in the Amateur All-Age Stake

Fort Campbell, Ky. — The Montgomery County Club of Woodlawn, Tenn., began their amateur trial on January 26 on the military grounds of Fort Campbell, Ky.

The Amateur All-Age was judged by Brandon Trowbridge of Morganfield, Ky., and club member Scott Little. The judicial seats for the Shooting Dog were filled by Brandon Trowbridge and Shane Duckworth of Fredrickstown, Mo. We appreciate Brandon, Shane and Scott sharing their expertise and for their willingness to judge this trial. While not working at their professional careers, Brandon and Shane each enjoy working as hunting guides. Brandon currently is a hunting guide at Wild Wing Lodge. Brandon and Shane both have served as hunting guides at Deer Creek Lodge. All three gentlemen have a great passion for bird dogs and hunting upland birds.

Earning first place in the All-Age was Ascension for his owner-handler Matt Pendergest. Ascension, three-year-old white and liver pointer male, had an impressive forward race with a nice find near the end of his brace. Second was Small’s White Stryker, pointer male owned and handled by Mike Small. White Stryker had a wonderful forward race on the third hour course. Reloaded,  pointer male, had a great forward race to place third. Reloaded is owned and handled by Jim Pendergest. All three placed dogs ran on Saturday morning with strong winds and impeding rains making for difficult bird-finding conditions.

The Shooting Dog ran during torrential downpours on Saturday afternoon, making it difficult to find birds, requiring handlers to keep dogs close, and creating fields knee deep in mud.

Earning first was the white and black setter female Lolita for handler Scott Little. She had a nice find in the hay field and a good ground race. “Lottie” is owned by Scott, Lisa and Hayden Little. Crouse’s Gerri Wind, white and black pointer female, placed second with a nice forward race for owner-handler Mike Crouse. Third was to Crouse’s Zippidy Do, white and black pointer male for handler Mary Schalk and owner Mike Crouse. Zip had a nice ground race.

We thank Purina and Greg Blair for supplying bags of Purina Pro Plan to the winners of each stake. Special thanks to club members J. D. Bumpus, Pete Glass, Bill Suiter and Dick Dowlen for manning the dog wagon, marshalling, or scouting for participants.
