Greenville, Fla. — The 2017 renewal of the prestigious National Amateur Quail Championship, hosted on the historic Dixie Plantation near Greenville, Fla., was concluded March 10. Judges Jim Tande of Arlington, Ga., and William Smith of Moscow, Tenn., named Southern Sparkling Jule as champion. The white and black ticked pointer female is owned and handled by Dr. Kent Cantrell of Ocala, Fla. Runner- up was Walnut Tree Fred, pointer male for owner/handler Steve Mills of Mayodan, N. C.

Forty-five entries were drawn for the stake and 38 competed for this year’s championship title. The weather was quite warm, but bird work was plentiful.
