National Prairie Chicken Open Shooting Dog Championship

Bancroft, Wis. — The National Prairie Chicken Open Shooting Dog Championship was held on the Buena Vista Grasslands in Bancroft, Wis., starting on Monday, September 24. The stake drew a starting field of 53 dogs.

Strut Nation, four-year-old white and orange pointer male owned and handled by Scott Jordan of Grant, Minn., was crowned the new champion. He put together an outstanding hour with multiple bird contacts that showed both class and manners.

Capturing the runner-up title was Mobile Strike, three-year old white, tan and ticked setter male owned by Doug Hinton and Dr. Chet Layne of Georgia and handled by Doug Ray. Strike had a far-reaching and powerful forward race with one find.

In the Open Derby, first place was Cheyenne Nation, pointer female owned and handled by Scott Jordan. Second was Bar P Inspired, pointer male owned and handled by Rich Boumeester of Jordan, Minn., and third was Erin’s Ty Breaker, pointer male owned by Theodore R. Roach of Fort Wayne, Ind., and handled by Doug Ray.

Judges were as advertised, Pat Sheehan of Jacksonville, Ill., and Mark Johnson of Winnebago, Ill.
