Mohawk Mill Glory Second in the Amateur All-Age Stake

Hoffman, N. C. — The North Carolina Association trial was run February 9-10 on the Hoffman Field Trial Grounds, Hoffman, N. C., drawing 12 Derbies and 15 all-age dogs. Judges for the Derby Stake were Dr. Hunter Wilcox and Phil Moser. Judges for the All-Age were Gary Miller and Phil Moser.

Birds were abundant throughout the running with birds being moved during every brace of the trial, with some dogs having multiple finds. A special thanks goes out to Alford Wood who took on the duties of feeding the quail this season. Alford also served as trial chairman and along with his wife Cathy’s help put on the cocktail party and dinner after Friday’s running.

Walnut Tree Jim, pointer male owned and handled by Steve Mills, took top honors in the Amateur Derby. Jim had a big running race consistently being shown running and hunting to the front. At 28 point was called for Jim with Mills flushing a nice covey, the dog standing mannerly for flush and shot. Stoney Run’s Jane, pointer female owned and handled by Dennis Snyder, claimed second place with a big front running race and was credited with a find at 24 with Jane standing mannerly for the flush and shot. Cape Hickory Bucky, pointer male owned by David Dale and handled by Paul Gadd, took third with a big front running race and bird contact at 28.

In the Amateur All-Age, placed first was Desiree, pointer female owned by Hunter Wilcox and John Tomaski and handled by Hunter Wilcox. Desiree ran in the fifth brace and was credited with finds at 35 and 56, both times dog standing mannerly for flush and shot. During Desiree’s hour she was constantly shown hunting and making big casts to the front. Gary Winall’s setter female Mohawk Mill Glory was down in the sixth brace and earned second.
