North Dakota and Hawthorne Border Classics

Columbus, N. D. — The North Dakota trials were held at Columbus, N. D. Judges Harold Woodward of Vilonia, Ark., and Rand Jonathan Burch, Holly Springs, Miss., presided for the Dr. Douglas Guthrie Memorial Derby and the North Dakota Classic.

In the Guthrie Derby, with 27 entires, first was Rester's Cajun Justice, white and orange pointer maleowned by Cecil Rester of Angie, La., and handled by Luke Eisenhart. Second was Wynona's Nickleback Sugar, white and orange setter female owned by Bruce Sooter of Snyder, Tex. Third was Wynona's Speed Dial Rita, white and orange pointer female, also owned by Bruce Sooter. Both dogs were handled by Allen Vincent.

Winner of North Dakota Classic was Sadie Firefly, white and liver pointer female owned by Arkansans Natalie Cooper, Steve Lightle and Dr. James Mills, handled by Allen Vincent. Second was Dream Chaser, white and liver pointer male owned  by Brad H. Calkins of Centennial, Colo.,  and handled by Andy Daugherty. Touch's Red Rider, white and orange pointer male owned by Tucker Johnson of Hobe Sound, Fla., and handled by Luke Eisenhart was named to third. Thirty-eight dogs competed.

Winner of the Preston Trimble Memorial Derby was  Wynona's Nickleback Sugar, owned by Bruce Sooter, handled by Allen Vincent. Second was Wynona High Finance Rita, pointer female also owned by Bruce Sooter and handled by Vincent. Third was Touch's Amazing Greyce, white and liver pointer female owned and handled by Austin Turley of Molt, Mont. The stake drew a field of nineteen.

In the D. E. Hawthorne Border Classic, with 33 entries, Texas Wild Rex, white and orange pointer male owned by Brad Kennedy of Red Banks, Miss., and handled by Allen Vincent, emerged the winner. Upfront's Southern Star, white and liver pointer female owned and handled by Lance Schulz of Bismarck, N.D., was second. Lowrider Frank, white and liver pointer male owned by Dr. Jim Mills and Steve Lightle handled by Allen Vincent, earned third.

Judges for that fixture were Laura Miller of Maxwell, Ia., and Kelli Aitken, Manhattan, Kan.

Correction. Brad Kennedy no longer owns Texas Wild Rex. Aaron Bolli of St George, Utah was the owner of record during the Hawthorne Border Classic.
