Hardyston, N. J. — The Northern New Jersey Field Trial Club held its annual spring trial  May 12 at Hardyston, N. J., sanctioned by the National Bird Hunters Association and sponsored by Purina. This is a wonderful way to wrap up the field trial season, enjoy the company of friends, and welcome newcomers into our sport.

This was the second year in a row that rain was present at our event, but everyone was prepared for the forecast and by mid-morning any rainy-day blues lifted by way of sunny skies.

In the Open Derby, Indian Creek Courageous Cat strutted her stuff with a forward snappy race and four perfect finds for proud owner Edward Marron. Flash earned second for owner-handler Steve Chiofalo with a super strong ground race and one good find. All On took third with one perfect find and a nice race.

In the Open Shooting Dog, Indian Creek Perfect Storm took home the blue for owners John and Lori Bleeker. Storm lived up to his name, surging through the country with his usual powerful ground speed and scoring six “perfect” finds.

Indian Creek Bocephus ran an exciting forward race and exhibited his signature precision on five finds working along with handler Garry Malzone. Rounding out the placements was Harwich Indian Creek Buck with an athletic forward race and four well-spaced finds for owner-handler John Olfson.

Winning the Amateur Derby was Asper Hill Pippi for owner-handler Michael Oxenrider. Pippi had three good finds and a classy race. Second was Cruzin’s Moneymaker for owner-handler Rob Errigo.

The Amateur Shooting Dog proved to be a competitive stake. Emerging in first place was All In for owner-handler Thor Kain. All In showed off his talent from start to finish through his snappy forward race, precise bird work and impressive finish. Pure Confidence, with a consistent forward race, swept through the country, scoring three nice finds. Grouse Ridge Gambler, third, had three good finds, a moderate race and a nice finish for owner-handler Mike Spotts.

Putting a smile on all our faces was the Amateur Shooting Dog. John Avanzato took home the blue with Indian Creek Lefty which had two chukar finds. Penny (Michael Oxenrider) had two finds. Third, for the Link family, was Winchester of Erskine, lovingly known as Winn. Handler Joe Link, along with his two daughters, Claire and Christina, were here to cheer this young pup on.

Congratulations to all the winners! A big thank you to Judges John Dobson, Joe Faggiola, John Olfson and Thor Kain. Thank you to everyone who

attended and helped make this trial a great time!
