Ardmore, Okla. — The Lone Star Shooting Dog Classic began on November 13 at the Lake Murray Field trial grounds in Ardmore, Okla.

Adrian Jackson of Boys Ranch, Tex., and Col. Dan Wisely of Powderly, Tex., looked at 24 contenders in the Classic and ten Derby-age dogs.

We thank Purina and SportDog for their sponsorship and all they do for the field trial sport.

Randall Turner drove the dog wagon and was Johnny on the spot throughout the event. Darby Moore entertained us all and kept feeding us ham sandwiches. (Six days of ham sandwiches might be too much).

Everett Brannan marshalled, which was a big help. Events sometimes happen that can make a trial somewhat funny, things like losing your phone, or your wife getting your truck stuck, your horse running off, just to name a few, but it all worked out for a good trial.

THE WINNERS

Jacked Up Jasper, six-year-old white and orange setter male owned by Larry Williamson of Ponca City, Okla., took first place honors for handler Virgil Moore with two good finds and a very smooth, consistent race.

In Swami’s Shadow, six-year-old white and orange pointer female owned by Bill and  Mary Sand of Sarasota, Fla., took second for Shawn Kinkelaar with a strong race and one excellent find.

Hale’s Southern Touch earned third with a consistent race and one good find for handler Shawn Kinkelaar. The seven-year-old white and liver pointer female is owned by Dr. Jeffrey Hale of Russellville, Ark.

Several other dogs contended with strong races but needed bird work: Supernatural and Dixie Delight for Virgil Moore; Thunderbolt and Southern Star and Touch’s Rocketman for Shawn Kinkelaar, and Barshoe Puccini for Justin Crook.
