Erin's Coin Toss First in the Amateur Shooting Dog Stake; Second in the Open Shooting Dog Stake

Chandlerville, Ill. — The Piasa Pointer and Setter Club held their spring field trial February 3-4 at Jim Edgar Panther Creek State Fish and Wildlife Area just outside of Chandlerville, Ill. Weather for field trials in Illinois in early February can be a gamble, but we had two days suitable to run our event.

We had a good entry, with handlers coming from Wisconsin and Illinois, including pointers, setters and Vizslas, and we thank all the participants who came out to run their dogs.

Piasa thanks Greg Blair and Nestlé Purina for providing bags of Purina Pro Plan for the winners in both of the shooting dog stakes. Purina representative Terry Trzcinski was on hand during our running on Saturday and even brought a delicious pot of chili for all to enjoy.

Putting on a successful field trial takes plenty of willing volunteers. Pat Sheehan served as the bird planter each morning and drove the dog wagon. Sean Patrick Derrig was our go-to man taking entries, marshalling, and judging. Matt Collins assisted with the bird bag and bird planting as well.

Piasa would especially like to thank our judges. Jarrett Bell of Missouri and J. D. Waters from Illinois judged our Open stakes. Sean Patrick Derrig and Jeff Wagoner served as judges for the Amateur Shooting Dog Stake. The judges set the pace and were attentive to all dogs and handlers with their placements well received.

In the Open Shooting Dog, awarded first place was Erin’s Hearts on Fire, pointer male owned and handled by Sean Patrick Derrig. Second was Erin’s Coin Toss, pointer male, owner-handler Brian Sheehan. Placed third was Buckheart’s Ace of Spades, pointer male for owner-handler Jeff Wagoner.

In the Open Derby, first was Louie, Vizsla male owned and handled by Bill Elliott. Skydancer Flash Drive, setter male owned and handled by Dennis Lutynski, earned second. Third was Rolling Hills Sassy, pointer female owned and handled by Jeff Wagoner. All dogs placed with bird work and several native pheasants and coveys of quail seen and pointed.

On Sunday in the Amateur Shooting Dog, Erin’s Coin Toss (Brian Sheehan) earned first place. J. D. Waters’ pointer male Waters Rattle and Snap placed second. Third place went to Labur’s Undisputed, pointer female owned and handled by Larry Burgard, on ground race. We look forward to seeing everyone next year!
