Waybetter Rocky First in the Inez C. Smith Open Shooting Dog Classic

East Windsor, Conn. — September 9 kicked off the start of our Purina points shooting dog season in the Northeast when the Pittsburgh and Associated Field Trial Clubs of Connecticut hosted the trial at Flaherty Field Trial Area in East Windsor, Conn. We drew 62 dogs in the Inez Smith Open Shooting Dog and 25 in the Open Derby. Due to the lack of entries, the Elwin G. Smith Amateur Shooting Dog Classic was cancelled.

Judges were Joe Amatulli of New Hartford, Conn., and Aidan Malone of Bolton, Conn., for the Open Shooting Dog. Gene Casale, Jr. of Marlborough, Conn., and Aidan Malone judged the Open Derby. We thank them for their time in the saddle.

Purina is our biggest sponsor as they are in most field trials. Thank you to Purina and Greg Blair for all they do for our sport.

Thank you Mary Tracy and Muriel Primm for your help. Special thank you to Dave O’Brien. This trial could not have happened without Dave.

The Inez Smith Open Shooting Dog drew a field of 54 pointers and 8 setters. The winner was Waybetter Rocky, six-year-old white and orange pointer male owned by Bill and Muriel Primm of Cream Ridge, N. J., and Carl, Joyce and Collin Bishop of Punxsutawney, Pa.

Second was Osceola’s Seminole Wind, first year white and orange pointer female owned by Jim and Theresa Morrell and Casey and Devin Hollander of Seabrook, S. C. Placed third was Coosawhatchie Smooth Ride, six-year-old pointer male owned by Casey Hollander.

Mike Tracy handled all three dogs.

The Bill McNamee Memorial Open Derby Classic winner was Town Creek Hardaway Jill, white and lemon pointer female owned by Bill Clem of Hardaway, Ala., and handled by Mike Martino. Second was Hiett’s Game Point, owned by Tim Hiett of Ranburne, Ala., and also handled by Mike Martino. Coming in third was Calico’s Guns N Roses, white and black pointer female owned by Bill and Muriel Primm and Calico Kennels and handled by George Tracy.

Overall it was another successful trial. Thank you to all who supported the trial.

Look forward to seeing you all next year.
