Random Notes . . .

Apr 12, 2018

Word of the fire at Gary Winall’s Mohawk Mill Kennels in Powhatan, Va., reached the editorial desk in March, but particulars were not forthcoming until recently when Ellen Clements sent an update.

“It has been horrible,” she wrote.  “We woke on the morning of February 28 to dogs screaming and the barn/kennel engulfed in fire. We were unable to get Mohawk Mill Glory, the setter that just won runner-up in the Region 3 (Amateur) All-Age Championhip, and Arcanum’s Lady Pirate from the fire.

“We have been working on five dogs trying to heal them from their burns and two were burned so bad we just got one back a week ago and the other is still being treated. The barn and all the contents were a total loss. Thirty-five years of history, breeding, sweat and tears up in flames.

“Purina stepped up immediately and sent us dog food and SportDog sent us new collars, and the field trial fraternity and family has been unbelievable with their offers of help and support.”
