American Field

Random Notes . . .

Dec 07, 2018

The annual Christmas Issue of The American Field was shipped to readers on December 5.

Contained in that issue is a feature  by William Smith entitled “Fathers, Sons, Brothers” in which he details family members who handled dogs in the National Championship.

Shortly after the Christmas Edition had gone to press, William Smith called the editorial desk from Moscow, Tenn., with some follow-up information.

“During the recent Kentucky Quail Classic, my judging partner Ed Epp clarified for me his handling of three qualified dogs in the 1979 running at Grand Junction, Tenn.

“Happens that his dad, Mr. Freddie Epp, had suffered a broken hip and could not handle Chickaboom, Just A Nip and Merryway Blackbelt in that renewal. Ed Epp stepped in to do the honors.”

Additionally, Tom Word has had a contribution in the annual Christmas Number for well over thirty years.

He intended an addendum to his piece, dedicating it to “Jim Heckert, Marine Veteran of the Vietnam War and manager of Cedar Grove Plantation, Clarksville, Virginia.”
