Medford, N. J. — The 11th annual Region 2 Brittany Champagne Memorial Shooting Dog Championship started Wednesday morning, March 29. The drawing took place on Monday with a pizza dinner sponsored by Pete DeAngelis of Longview Kennels.

On Tuesday there were thunderstorms all day which went into the night. This resulted in a sloppy and wet course for the start Wednesday morning.

Wednesday was a clear day with temperatures ranging from 50-60° and winds averaging 15 mph. Five braces were completed on Wednesday and all dogs had bird contact. Thursday was overcast all day with temperatures averaging around 45°; winds were calm. Thursday bird work was plentiful; every brace recorded several covey finds.

The winner came from the second brace. Marjo’s Johnnie Walker, handled by Joe Luisi, had six finds with great style and a consistent forward shooting dog race. Walker finished the hour going away strong to earn the championship title. This is the second time that Walker has won the Region 2 Brittany Championship. Runner-up was awarded to the ninth brace dog Sal, handled by Bruce Conover. Sal had multiple covey finds with a nice wide shooting dog range and quick ground speed.

Hit’s All Jack’d Up, handled by Joe Sikorski, placed third with two finds and wide range which would have him missing to the front at times. Fourth was Brigadoon’s Hi Proof Moonshine, handled by Paul Snyder. Moonshine competed in the seventh brace and had two stylish finds and a consistent ground race sticking to the edges nicely.

A special thanks to the hardworking field trial community who helped to make this another class event: Joe Luisi, Bruce Conover and Ralph Kiracofe for planting birds; Ralph Kiracofe who was in charge of the raffle and evening festivities; Judy Kiracofe for her role as the event secretary.

Thank you to our judges, Art Cohen of Glen Rock, Pa., and Fred Potts of Laurenburg, Pa. We thank these fine judges who gave us their time and many hours in the saddle to select the winners.

Loyall and Nutrena once again sponsored our event and provided dog food and horse feed to the winners as well as financial support.

Pete DeAngelis of Longview Kennels, Water and Wings Training Club and Danielle Perry, winner of the 2016 Region 2 Championship, also supported this Championship by generously hosting dinners through the week.
