Field Trial Report

Region 8 Open All-Age

By Michael Griffin | May 04, 2021
Westfall’s True Grit, First in the Region 8 Open All-Age Stake.

Inola, Okla. — We got started on time in cool and cloudy conditions with 26 all-age dogs. It was good for running. Weather continued cloudy and comfortable.

We seemed to find a good number of birds. Looks like the bird program is working. We did, however, have several armadillos found. More than ever seen here. Maybe after the spring burn some will leave.

A word of appreciation to Kay Ingersoll for her gracious hospitality for allowing the Region 8 to hold its trial at the McFarlin Ingersoll Ranch.

I sincere thank you Purina for supporting our trial. They are great to work with and help a lot.

Also wish to thank all the members who helped. Barry Moore rode and got the gates and marshalled; Lynn Oxendine cooked and served lunches; Bob Barker put out birds and rode, received the dog food and helped chair this event. We had a very good trial with no  complaints.

We always thank our judges Ken Chenoweth and Lou Qualtiere for coming and doing a great job. As I mentioned, we pointed a good numbed of birds and had some very good dog races. Overall had a good time with a good trial.

THE WINNERS

First place winner was Westfall’s True Grit, five-year-old white and liver pointer male owned by Ryan Westfall of Liberty, Mo., and handled by Andy Daugherty. True Grit ran in the first brace of the stake and rendered a big, forward race, very nice looking moving dog coupled with a good covey find to garner his placement.

Second was Whippoorwill Forever Wild, seven-year-old pointer male owned by Phil Witter of Baton Rouge, La., and handled by Matt Cochran.  Forever Wild ran in the seventh brace with a very good front-running easy handling race, a real pleasure to watch. He had a nice covey find in the middle to earn his spot in the order.

Third was Lowrider Frank, veteran pointer male handled by Allen Vincent for owners Dr. Jim Mills and Steve Lightle of Searcy, Ark. Frank ran a good controlled all-age race looking good going; he handled nicely with a covey find near the end of his hour, all with good style and composure that earned him a spot in the order.
