Round Pond Amateur Shooting Dog Classic

Round Pond Field Trial Club

Crown's Black Ice [With Stephens Walker]Second in the Amateur Shooting Dog Stake

Leslie, Ga. — The 2017 Round Pond Amateur Shooting Dog Classic was held in Leslie, Ga. The trial was delayed by a strong storm system moving through the Southeast. With this storm system came devastating winds, tornados and heavy downpours causing several scratched dogs. Total time delay was one and a half days, pushing the trial over into the following week. Round Pond was very fortunate to escape without any heavy damage.

Judging this year’s trial were Tracy Swearingen and Steve Wiley. The two judges are well known for their know-ledge of bird dogs and the sport of field trialing. Both judges were very attentive and gave each dog a good look and fair chance to emerge the winner.

As usual,  the Round Pond grounds were groomed to near perfection. The grounds are vast with plenty of birds making it a bird dog haven. The grounds provide plenty of room for a handler to be able to show a dog’s ability to find birds, handle and have a big ground race.

The socials at Round Pond each evening are a big attraction as well. With a buffet of delicious food and a stocked bar, a good time is assured to be had by all. All meals are prepared by Debbie Hoffer and Christy Swearingen. The meals including breakfast, lunch and dinner were wonderful and left nothing to be desired. Neil Walker was busy keeping things moving along and making sure guests felt right at home. McArthur Heard was helping to block at road crossings and take care of any chores needing to be attended to.

Most importantly, thank you to Neil Walker, Pam and Sandy Walker for the use of such beautiful grounds without which the trial would not be such a success.

With four solid finds at 5, 9, 14 and 35, as well as a big ground race, Redland’s Jacked Up, owned and handled by Joe Rentz, was awarded first place by the judges.

Taking second place with six clean finds at 8, 18, 23, 25, 31 and 45, along with a back and a strong, stylish forward race, was Crown’s Black Ice, owned by Tracy Swearingen and Stephens Walker handled by Stephens Walker.

Elhew G Force, owned and handled by Tim Moore, took third place. “Rex” handled well with five nice finds at 10, 25, 30, 42, 57; a find at 53 would prove to be an unproductive.

The winners did a great job covering the course and finding birds.

Congratulations to all!
