Saskatchewan and Dominion Open Championships

Mortlach, Sask. — The three-stake program at Mortlach, Saskatchewan began August 24 with the Saskatchewan Open Championship which drew a competitive field of 30 dogs. Emerging as the winner was Lester’s Private Charter, four-year-old white and orange pointer male owned by Bruce and Karen  Norton of Norman Park, Ga., and Dr. Reuben Richardson of Doerun, Ga. Charter was handled by Mark McLean. Runner-up was Touch’s Blue Moon, five-year-old white and orange pointer male in the ownership of Frank Foley of Albany, Ga., and handled by Cody McLean.

Judges were Jason Lafrance of Lamont, Alberta and Pat Lewis of Ste. Anne, Manitoba.

The Saskatchewan Open Derby drew six youngsters for Judges Dave Nelson of Camrose, Alberta and Sheldon Rogers of Asquith, Saskatchewan. Named to first was Westfall’s Wheels Up, white and black ticked pointer male owned by Bill Westfall of Liberty, Mo., and handled by Andy Daugherty. Second was Westfall’s Mandalay, white and black pointer male owned by Bill Westfall, also handled by Daugherty. Rester’s Cajun Charlie, white and orange pointer male owned and handled by Cecil R. Rester of Angie, La., garnered third.

The concluding Dominion Open Championship (29 entries) was judged by Mike Jones of Strathmore, Alberta and Sheldon Rogers. Touch’s Blue Moon was awarded the title for owner Frank Foley and handler Cody McLean. Runner-up was Westfall’s True Grit,  four-year-old white and liver pointer male owned by Ryan Westfall of Liberty, Mo., and handled by Andy Daugherty.
