Saskatchewan Open Chicken Championship

Mortlach, Sask. — The Saskatchewan Open Chicken Championship began August 25 in Mortlach, Sask. Forty-six dogs were drawn for the Championship, with an additional seventeen competing in the companion Open Derby.

Topping the field in the Championship was Shadow’s Next Exit, three-year-old white and orange pointer male owned by newly elected Hall of Fame member N. G. (Butch) Houston of Nashville, Ga., and handled by Robin Gates. Westfall’s Black Thunder, four-year-old white and black pointer male owned by Bill Westfall of Liberty, Mo., and handled by Andy Daugherty, was the runner-up.

Awarded first in the companion Open Derby was Shadow’s White Cross, white and orange pointer male owned by Carl Bowman of Louisville, Ky., and handled by Robin Gates. Buddy, handled by Travis Gellhaus, placed second. Third was Westfall’s Castaway, white and black pointer male handled by Andy Daugherty for owner Ryan Westfall of Liberty, Mo.

Judging the Championship were Jeff Haggis of Glencoe, Ontario and William Smith of Moscow, Tenn. Jeff Haggis was joined by Dave Noell of Laurel, Mont., for the Open Derby.
