Robert Ecker (right) is presented Open Handler of the Year Award from Ashby Morgan.

The U. S. Complete Shooting Dog Association held its annual awards banquet at the Fort Magruder Hotel and Conference Center in Williamsburg, Va. This was a wonderful evening planned by U. S. Complete President Ashby Morgan. We had a great turnout, with nearly 70 guests!

This banquet served not only as a presentation of the top handlers and dogs of the past year, but as a celebration of a year of growth and rejuvenation in the U. S. Complete Association. Entries were up significantly in 2016-2017 and several new clubs hosted trials. We are excited about the future.

Gary Winall, highly successful amateur all-age handler, breeder, trainer, gave an informative presentation on conditioning dogs and preparing them both physically and mentally for competition. We are thankful Gary was able to join us and share his experience with us.

We thank our sponsor Purina and Dean Reinke for joining us at the banquet. We are appreciative of Purina’s continued support and through their generosity we are able to grow.

The Open Shooting Dog of the Year was Hifive’s Passin Time, owned by Ron Levitan and handled by Garry Malzone. This veteran pointer female amassed an amazing 534 points with five big wins, including two championship placements. She had wins in all four regions and was consistent throughout the year.

Pinekone Splash, Ashby Morgan’s stylish setter, had a solid year to win the Amateur Shooting Dog of the Year award. Splash had five shooting dog wins including three first place wins over strong fields.

The Open Handler of the Year is Robert Ecker who amassed an amazing 1340 points with 34 placements. This includes three championship placements and a Futurity placement. Robert’s Midnight Kennel is located in Quakake, Pa., and his winter grounds are in West End, N. C.

Mike Spotts won Amateur Handler of the Year with a total of 11 placements in three regions. His National Amateur Championship win with Miss Penn Star was his most significant win of the year.
