The U. S. Complete Shooting Dog Association held its annual awards banquet August 3 at the Fort Magruder Hotel and Conference Center in Williamsburg, Va. This was a wonderful evening planned by U. S. Complete President Ashby Morgan. We had a great turnout with nearly seventy guests!

The banquet served not only as a presentation of the top handlers and dogs of the past year, but as a celebration of a year of continued growth and many new clubs joining the U. S. Complete organization.

The Association ran over 2,100 dogs in the 2018-2019 season. This is an increase of 27% over the 2017-2018 season. We are excited about the future.

Rick Smith, world renowned trainer and speaker, took a break from his busy seminar schedule to give a presentation on starting puppies. We were gratful to have Rick join us.

We thank our sponsor Purina and Dean Reinke for joining us at the banquet. We are appreciative of their continued support and through their generosity we are able to grow.

Dean is retiring at the end of the year and Greg Blair will be taking his place. Greg was also in attendance at the banquet and we are excited to be working with Greg moving forward.

The Open Shooting Dog of the Year was Islander, setter male owned by Pedrag Kazic of Greenlawn, N. Y., and handled by Robert Ecker, Jr. This veteran setter tallied 320 points in the season with four open wins, including the Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship placements. Islander has nineteen championship placements in his career!

Pirate’s Mean Louise, Dennis Kivikko’s consistent performer, had an outstanding year to win the Amateur Shooting Dog of the Year award. Louise placed in twelve shooting dog stakes, including four first place wins, over strong fields.

The Open Handler of the Year is Robert Ecker, Jr. who amassed an amazing 1,780 points with 52 placements! This includes two championship placements and a Futurity placement. This is the third consecutive year that Ecker has won this award.

Robert’s Midnight Kennel is located in Quakake, Pa., and his winter grounds are in West End, N. C.

Mike Spotts won Amateur Handler of the Year with a total of 26 placements in three regions. His three kennelmate setter males each received national awards: Grouse Ridge Gambler (RU Shooting Dog of the Year), Knob Mountain Monarch (RU Derby of the Year), and Knob Mountain Nomad (Puppy of the Year).

Mike Spotts previously won Handler of the Year honors in 2016-2017.
