United States Chicken Championship

Mobridge, S. D. — The time-honored United States Chicken Championship, under the auspices of the Northern States Amateur Field Trial Association, was concluded at the Thompson Ranch near Mobridge, S. D. The Championship drew 33 dogs. Emerging as the winner was True Confidence, nine-year-old white and orange pointer male owned by Frank and Jean LaNasa of Isanti, Minn., and handled by Luke Eisenhart. Claiming runner-up laurels was Mercer Mill Grand, five-year-old white and lemon pointer male owned by Remy Trafelet and Mercer Mill Plantation of Oakfield, Ga., and handled by Billy Wayne Morton. Both winners had two finds each.

The Open Derby drew a strong field of 32 aspiring young contenders! The winner was Dominator’s Rebel Patch, white and liver pointer male owned by Nick Berrong of Maryville, Tenn., and handled by Jamie Daniels. Second was Mercer Mill Smoke, pointer male owned by Remy Trafelet and Mercer Mill Plantation, handled by Billy Wayne Morton. Third was Maswood’s Silver Spur, pointer male owned by Jerrell Bryan of Philadelphia, Miss., and handled by Tommy Davis.

Judges for both stakes were Rich Heaton of Boise, Ida., and Mike Jackson of Battle Ground, Ind. Full particulars will be forthcoming from reporter Deb Hauser.
