United States Quail Shooting Dog Futurity

Hoffman, N. C. — Sixty-one dogs were drawn for the 54th U. S. Quail Shooting Dog Futurity held January 30-February 2 near Hoffman, N. C. Judges Don Garris and Steve Mills picked the winners from a strong group of Derbies that found and handled plenty of birds.

Sixteen dogs were called back for the one-hour final series. Awarded first place was Always Dreaming, pointer female owned by Dr. Charles Cantrell of Anthony, Fla., bred and started by Maurice Lindley and handled by Doug Ray. Dreaming pointed birds five times during her 90 minutes on the ground.

Second was Tallokas Sun Dial, pointer female owned and bred by Tallokas Kennels of Thomasville, Ga., and handled by Mike Tracy. Sun Dial was credited with four finds, an unproductive and strong ground efforts in her 90 minutes. Third was awarded to Glassilaun War Paint, black marked pointer male owned by Jamie Nee of Quincy, Mass., bred and handled by Toby Tobiassen to forward hunting ground efforts and two finds. Fourth was Miller’s Cover Girl, pointer female owned and bred by Fran and Jack Miller of Barwick, Ga., and handled by Jack Miller to classy forward races, two finds and a back.

Birds were plentiful. A complete report will follow.
