Oakwood, Ill. — The Illinois Winners’ Classic was conducted April 7-8 at the Middlefork SFWA. We were fortunate to have cool but nice weather conditions.

The grounds were in good shape.

All of the water crossings were easily managed. Spring burns had been accomplished in some areas, which made the viewing of dogs easier.

We thank the new site superintendent Tim Edison for having the grounds ready for our use.

Tim Jenness was once again our dog wagon driver. Always assisted by Bill Fitton.

I would like to express my appreciation to the club members who helped and enhanced the outcome of this trial.

Tony Mahan went above and beyond with securing sponsorship: Mule Supply, the Saddle Guy, Gun Dog Supply, Purina  and the Pointing Dog Journal.

Matt Collins did an excellent job with the prizes for each stake as well as for the judges’ gifts.

Tony and Matt put together a door prize selection that was well received by all.

John McIntosh took care of the lunches for both days. We also enjoyed dinner Saturday night. The loin chops were grilled to perfection.

Jeff Wagoner stepped up and planted birds for the Classic. Thanks to all for the help.

Our judges for this year’s Classic  and supporting stakes were Roger Watson  of Evansville, Ind., and Mike Jackson of Battle Ground, Ind. Both men are always a pleasure to have in your company. The pace was even throughout. There was never a moment they weren’t watching.

Bird work was at a premium for the Classic. The winner, Mike DuVall’s pointer female Thumper’s Anything But, and runner-up, Keith Lowry’s pointer female Touch’s Knight Belle, both had solid bird work and finished the hour.
