Winfred Campbell Has Died

Winfred Lee Campbell, 87, passed away March 14. He had read The American Field since he was in high school. He even had it shipped to him while serving in the Army in Korea.

Winfred enjoyed The American Field so much; he boound the yearly issues together, making books out of them and shared them with friends.

Winfred worked for Mr. G. Gunby Jordan in Columbus, Ga., managing the private hunting plantation “Jorwick” near Warwick, Ga., for 35 years.

He was active in the field trial circuit handling several dogs, most notably Jorwick’s Dixiecrat and Jorwick’s Papa J. Papa J won the Sixty-Forth American Field Quail Futurity in 1968.

Jorwick’s Dixiecrat won the 1965 Texas Open Championships and the 1966 National Free-for-All where he found ten bevies in the three-hour finals.

Winfred was an avid sportsman who loved bird dogs, quail hunting and golf.

He leaves behind his wife of 62 years, Fanchon Campbell, two daughters, Pam Campbell and Donna Jackson, and one granddaughter, Meghan Bortscheller, three nephews and three nieces. He is missed by family and friends.
